Boise State University’s new student, Cooper Longyear, has certainly left his mark on the students and teachers of Claremont High School. Over the course of his years in the Claremont Unified School District, Longyear is sure to be fondly remembered.
From excelling in sports like track and field early on in elementary and intermediate school, to being a part of Claremont High School’s award winning teams like varsity men’s volleyball and varsity men’s golf, Longyear has had love and talent for athletics much of his life. Although Boise State University does not have an official men’s volleyball team, Longyear plans to continue competing within their club volleyball program. As well as continuing to play sports, Longyear is majoring in kinesiology, continuing to explore his love and fascination for athletics and human movement.
Not only has his time at Claremont High School brought him lifelong friends that he will miss after graduation, but also his golf coach from Claremont High School, coach Terrance Lynch, who has provided him support and assistance as Longyear learned to balance school, his commitment to his sports, as well as handling every-days.
Although leaving his home, friends, and family behind will be difficult, there are many new opportunities to come for Longyear.
“Being in a new state will be super fun.” Longyear said. “I am excited to kind of just explore the area and meet new people.”
Although there is much new excitement for Longyear, he will not forget his time at Claremont High School and is leaving the rising seniors with one piece of advice:
“Just stay focused toward the end of the year. I know a lot of people kind of lose their focus and derail in the last few months of school, but just try to push through the whole year because it is worth it.”
