For the first time in their lives, twin sisters Persphone and Reyna Kawamura will be apart. In the fall of 2026, the two will begin carving their own paths after eighteen years of sisterhood and friendship. Reyna plans to attend the University of California, Davis, where she will major in psychology on a pre-med track, while Persephone will attend Occidental College in Los Angeles to major in sociology. Although the twins will be heading in separate directions, their bond will remain undeniable.
“When Reyna says jump, I say ‘How high” Persephone said.
Throughout high school, the twins have immersed themselves in different accolades, both being four-year members of ArtStart and captains of their respective sports, Reyna swim, and Persephone tennis.
As they prepare for college, both twins are seeking futures that involve helping others. Reyna said that UC Davis stood out to her because of their strong academics and pre-med opportunities.
“They have a really good premed program- that was very compelling”, Reyna said. Inspired by her psychology class at Claremont High School, Reyna hopes to eventually become a licensed psychiatrist.
Persephone decided on Occidental after immediately connecting with the campus atmosphere,“It spoke to me,” Persephone said. “I went on the campus, and I could feel it.” Majoring in sociology, Persephone hopes to dedicate her future to nonprofit work and helping underrepresented communities. Ideally, in the future, she will have her own nonprofit that focuses on helping people who are experiencing homelessness.
When asked what their favorite part about being twins was, Reyna notes how Persephone is always by her side. ,
“I like having someone who I can always talk to about everything,” Reyna said. Persephone echoes this sentiment. ,
“Having someone who’s been going through the same stuff as me, and getting to experience life at the same time together,” Persephone said.
The twins are both excited for futures that involve adventure and new experiences. Despite being miles apart, there is no doubt that the two will stay connected and continue to rely on each other. Reyna’s motto of “YOLO” reflects the twins’ shared humor and positive outlook on life.
Reyna and Persephone would like to shout out their friends Olivia Savage, Mahalia Crawford, Kennedy Sparks, and of course, each other.
