As an athlete, violinist, and pro Brawl Stars player, Caleb Fong has found immense success throughout his high school career–and he will accomplish even more as a biology major at the University of California, Los Angeles
For those in the Instrumental Music program at CHS, Fong is known for being the former concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra, where he plays the violin. He was also a part of the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra and studied at the Colburn School.
“I started [playing] when I was five,” Fong said. “My mom, who’s a music major, got me into it. Throughout high school, I studied at Colburn, which is in LA, and I won a couple competitions. I actually auditioned for a few schools of music, but I didn’t want to do that for college.”
Outside of music, Fong played on the varsity tennis team for four years, serving as its captain for his junior and senior year.
“I started in eighth grade, and I made the team as a freshman,” Fong said. “I’ve been on it for all four years. Our team’s been really good these past four years; we’ve always been top 20 in CIF SS, so that’s been fun.”
Fong has also been successful academically, having taken numerous weighted classes throughout his high school years. In fact, he was recognized as a National Merit Scholar this past year, which is a great academic achievement.
Finally, Fong would like to shout out to his Jesse Li and Ms. Tran for letting him eat snacks in her classroom.
