Perhaps you have seen her pirouetting on Bridges stage or trekking along Mills Avenue—Claremont High School’s (CHS) valedictorian Enya Wang is heading to Harvard University this fall. There, Wang plans to major in Molecular and Cellular Biology on a pre-med track. While living on the East Coast has been her life-long dream, attending Harvard is an honor she never imagined possible.
Wang’s time at CHS has definitely helped her succeed. Some of her favorite classes include AP Physics 1 and C, AP U.S. History, AP Calculus AB and BC, German, and IB English. Wang is thankful for her teachers, especially Dr. Arboleda, Mr. Carrillo, Frau Tsai, Ms. Kandice, Mr. Glavin, and Ms. Castillo, for supporting and inspiring her throughout the past four years. She would also not be where she is today without the unwavering guidance of her counselors, Ms. Hebert and Ms. Silva, for whom she is deeply grateful for.
Beyond school, Wang’s extracurriculars have greatly shaped who she is today. Wang has danced ballet pre-professionally throughout all of high school, and written and designed for the Wolfpacket for most of it. While balancing her extracurriculars and advanced-level classes, Wang has learned a lot, especially from dance. “[Dance has] shaped who I am as a person, and taught me everything from discipline, time management, self-care, to living independently,” Wang said.
In 2024, the young dancer was given the special opportunity to perform Clara in Inland Pacific Ballet’s The Nutcracker, which is an honor she will always cherish. In addition to dancing her dream role, Wang has also enjoyed traveling through competitions and summer intensives, where she has made special memories with artists and dancers from around the world. Dance will always be Wang’s second home.
Wang also fondly looks back on her time with the Wolfpacket. “It’s been such a joy working with these wonderful people, and I’ll miss chatting with them at Late Nights and designing pages,” Wang said.
In the future, Wang hopes to become a medical doctor and study women’s health or sports medicine. She wants to continue many of her passions like journalism, dance, design, community service, visual arts, and music. Outside of her studies, she will continue traveling and trying many cuisines.
To pursue her passions, Wang has had to learn to navigate fear and self-doubt. She is deeply grateful to her parents and brother for always supporting her.
When asked for advice, Wang encourages others to prioritize being a good person, staying kind to yourself, and appreciating the people around you, because that is when good things find you. While Enya Wang leaps off on her next adventure, she holds onto one piece of advice. “Life is just a culmination of nows,” Wang said. “So embrace every moment and explore everything out there—not for the accolades or the results, but for the joy of being truly present.”
