Charismatic, enthusiastic, and friendly, senior Hyun Cho stands out in all of the many extracurricular activities on campus that he is a part of. Whether in IB classes, cross country practices, clubs, or ComedySportz matches, Cho’s engaging personality leaves a lasting impression on anyone who meets him.
Although it came as a surprise to no one, Cho did not expect to be voted onto homecoming court this year.

“I was quite surprised to see myself on that list, to see myself – out of our whole class, so six hundred people – as one of the six people that made it,” Cho said. “That’s like one percent of the class, which is crazy.”

One can often find Cho practicing sports on campus hours after school ends, whether running with the cross country team up and down Indian Hill, sprinting across the soccer field, or doing warm-up exercises on the track. Cho says that he considers the members of the cross country team as his second family:

“Most of them [have been with me] since middle school and maybe even elementary school. They’ve ran with me, they’ve gone through a lot of ups and downs with me, [we’ve done] cross country and school [together] since freshman year.”

Aside from being involved in many sports, Cho is also a candidate to receive the IB Diploma this year. He cites Ms. Tran and Frau Tsai as two teachers that have had an impact on his high school experience. Cho is taking IB Biology HL 2 this year, and has taken German for four years, beginning in his freshman year. He was also an officer in German Club last year.

When he is not in sports practices or working on homework for IB, Cho enjoys hanging out with friends, attending Booba club meetings, playing video games, watching movies, and cooking traditional Korean dishes with his mom.

“Sometimes [my mom will] be making traditional Korean dishes and I’ll just tag along and she’ll teach me,” said Cho. ”For example, kimchi. She’ll be making that at 1 a.m. and she’ll call me downstairs to [help her] put it together.”

In the future, Cho wants to become an actor, but is open to a variety of career paths. He hopes that college will take him to the East Coast — hopefully, Boston University — but he ultimately wants to experience cold weather, a change from California’s sunny atmosphere. He plans to major in English Literature. He imagines this has the potential to lead him anywhere from a career in screenwriting, so that he can stay in the film industry, to a career in law.

Lastly, Cho would like to shout-out some of the other individuals that have been a part of his high school experience:

“I would have to give a shout-out to my second family, my Cross Country family……Shoutout to Joshua Ward, that guy is my closest friend. I’ve known him since I’d say eleven, or twelve…We did theatre together, Boy Scouts, sports, school, all that. As for teachers, Mr. Hernandez. I think he’s one of the coolest teachers on campus, like he dabs me up every time I see him.”
