BEST MUSIC

Political and social crises aside, 2017 was memorably marked by musical achievement. Music is considered one of this generation’s most important attributes, and artists across the globe are always on the move trying to make the newest and most creative pieces. Musicians like Post Malone Luis Fonsi, and Joji have been doing just that with all of their hits of 2017.
Post Malone has made it far in his music career since his first hit, “White Iverson,” dropped in 2016. Since then, Malone has released his first album, “Stoney,” which has been lauded for its musical diversity . Recently, one of his singles, “Rockstar,” was ranked #1 in the “Billboard Magazine” charts for 13 consecutive weeks.
Luis Fonsi made 2017 a year of more than just westernized music. When he, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber released their Latin pop single, “Despacito”, the world was blown away. The song opened more cultural and diverse sounds that had not been so relevant since Enrique Iglesias’ hit, “Bailando”. The song was ranked #1 and was on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 50 weeks. That is a way to end the year.
English pop singer Dua Lipa also made a name for herself this year with her hit, “New Rules.” The song has gained a large following since its release. It was on Billboard’s Top 100 for 24 weeks. She even made Brit Award history this year with five nominations for “New Rules” Not only that, but Lipa is an advocate and supporter for women’s equality in the music business. In Time Magazine’s video about next generation leaders, she said, “Girls should be looking after girls all the time. I think now more than ever we need that in the world.” Her words will not be taken with a grain of salt. Her message perseveres and remains relevant in the heart of her music.
Music in 2017 was something truly noteworthy. But 2018 is just around the corner, with bigger and better music to come.
