A staple of the social sciences department, Claremont sadly says farewell to the wonderful Steve Boyd. Helping students understand not just the principles of economics, but how to have fun while learning, Boyd was a treasured teacher. Contributing his fullest for thirty years in education, the CHS community wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
Every person has a story to find their career, and Boyd is no different.
“I worked in banking for nine years as a bank manager,” Boyd said. “I was the trainer for my branch. I had ROP students every so often. When I left banking, I wanted to continue training/teaching. That was the fun part of the job. I went back to school for my credential and started substituting. My first teaching assignment was at San Antonio High School.”
Boyd believes that education is a process that happens within an individual, and is focused on the value of the broader picture. Education is a career path immensely rewarding in many ways, but every teacher has their favorite aspect of their jobs.
“Sometimes it’s seeing the light turn on in a student’s eyes,” Boyd said. “They understand or get it. Other times it’s just seeing students make sense of the complicated world we live in and how economics works in their life.”
After twelve years at CHS, many heartwarming, cool, and funny memories are made. Among those there is one that stands out to Boyd.
“Graduation is always my favorite moment of every year,” Boyd said. “It’s a great time to celebrate and see everyone move on to the next chapter. I always shed a tear.”
Boyd has asked his classes if students wanted any tools from his garage, and he graciously gave him not one, but four different hammers and other tools..
From teaching the value of both economics and personal connections with students, and Boyd’s astounding educational experience and major generosity, CHS will miss him very dearly. When asked if he has any shoutouts as he closes out his career, Boyd did not have to give it much thought.
“Shout out to all my Seniors (My Kids)”
