“Hello, and welcome to ‘The Muppet Show,’ everybody. You know, we are so excited to be back on the very stage where it all started and then ended, and then it’s maybe starting again, depending on how tonight goes!” said Kermit the Frog at the start of the latest episode of “The Muppets Show.” “The Muppet Show” has returned for a new special episode released on February 4, 2026. It is a half-hour show, featuring singer Sabrina Carpenter, as well as actors Seth Rogen and Maya Rudolph. It is filled with classic Muppet chaos with humorous sketches on stage and behind the scenes. The main Muppets featured in the show are Kermit the Frog, Fozzy Bear, Miss Piggy, Scooter, Rizzo, Sam the Eagle, and Gonzo.
In the show, Kermit the Frog acts as the show coordinator, trying to keep everything organized. When a miscommunication arises, all the Muppets are told they will have time for their own acts. But when there is only enough time for a few of them to do their act, he is thrown into the chaos of trying to make everybody happy. The show is full of funny side plots and classic Muppet jokes. Gonzo performs a stunt and has a fabulous crash, Miss Piggy fights for the spotlight with Carpenter, and Kermit the Frog stresses as he tries to keep everything under control.
The show is full of song and dance. Rizzo and the Rats perform “Blinding Lights” by the Weekend until the lighting system shorts and the scene plunges into chaos. Of course, the special guest, Sabrina Carpenter, performs her song “Manchild” with Sam the Eagle and the dancing chickens. At the end of the show, Carpenter and Kermit the Frog sing a duet, “Islands In The Stream” by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, until Miss Piggy interrupts and shoves Kermit the Frog aside and replaces him to complete the duet with Carpenter. The show ends with an impromptu ensemble number of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” led by Kermit the Frog.
The episode was made to test if a full revival of ‘The Muppet Show’ would be a good idea. It did very well, and viewers enjoyed how it stayed loyal to the original show that ended in 1981. The show is a delicate combination of the old and the new, with the original style and comedy, but the new music and celebrities make it exciting and accessible to audiences of all ages. CHS freshman Annika Emadi explained the nostalgia she felt watching “The Muppets Show.”
“I grew up watching The Muppets, and it was a big part of my childhood. So seeing it redone and more modernized in songs and performances while still keeping the original style was great,” Emadi said.
“The Muppet Show” has been around since 1974 and has been bringing joy and laughter to audiences for 52 years. This new show did not disappoint, striking nostalgia into the hearts of old viewers and curiosity into the minds of new ones.
