On April 2, 2026, after more than a year of waiting, Season three of “XO, Kitty” was released. Within the first four days of its release, it topped the Netflix English TV chart with 12.9 million views. Almost three years after its first season, “XO, Kitty” season three has some of the lowest lows and highest highs of the series by far.
Based on the characters from Korean-American author Jenny Han’s “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” “XO, Kitty” had a successful first two seasons. Taking place in Seoul, South Korea, the main character, Kitty Song-Covey (played by Anna Cathcart), travels there to enroll in the Korean Independent School of Seoul (K.I.S.S.). There, she finds love, personal discovery, and more.
Season three begins right where season two left off: with Kitty realizing her feelings for Min Ho (played by Sang Heon Lee), asking him if she can join him and his family for his musician brother’s world tour. While the first episode sets up a lot for later in the series, it has a lot of embarrassing, socially awkward, and tense moments, making it more of an episode you want to scream into your pillow than actually enjoy the show.
Notably, we see a new character appear, Marius (played by Sule Thelwell), who has been mentioned in previous seasons. While he brings an interesting new dynamic to the K.I.S.S. crew, he seems to be a little unrealistic. The audience does not even know why he left after his sophomore year, and when he comes back for his own reasons, he seems to take it further than what actually seems realistic.
We also see another character return from “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” a recurring pattern from season two of “XO, Kitty.” In the second season, we see Peter Kavinsky (played by Noah Centineo) travel to Seoul for lacrosse and visit Kitty. However, in season three, we see his girlfriend and Kitty’s sister, Lara Jean Song-Covey (played by Lana Condor), multiple times. It is interesting to see how her relationship with Kitty has evolved since the last movie in the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” series.
A disappointing aspect of season three is that the character Dae (played by Choi Min-yeong), who was a main character in previous seasons, is relegated to a supporting role. In seasons one and two, we see Dae driving major plot points and being a plot point himself. In season three, we see him less often, and his only real contribution to the show is his trying to get back together with Eunice (played by Ryu Han-bi).
One of the most appealing aspects of the new season is Kitty’s outfit choices. In an interview with Teen Vogue, the show’s costume designer, Mojdeh Daftary, shared some of what was reflected in Kitty’s new wardrobe selections.
“This season, Kitty is exploring romance, thinking about her future, and, as always, thinking about her friends,” Daftary said. “She is continuing to become more confident in who she is. We see how all these things have influenced her look this season. […] we wanted to play with softer colors, and more romantic textiles, like lace and florals, showing a more romantic and flirty side of her that comes with her wanting to explore her relationship with Min Ho on a deeper level.”
An anonymous CHS student shared their thoughts about season three. “I appreciate that it showed how hard life choices are in high school,” the anonymous student said. “I hope there’s another season.”
So, “XO, Kitty” season three did a majority of things right. However, it dropped the ball on other aspects. Overall, it was well done and has fans wanting another season.
