Stanford is a college that many can only dream of attending. With a miniscule 4.7% acceptance rate, only the best of the best can get in. However, Kelly Xu has defied the odds, and will play NCAA Division Ⅰ golf at Stanford University in the fall.
Xu received offers from other prestigious universities like Harvard, Yale, UC Berkeley, and Oregon, but ultimately decided to commit to Stanford because of its competitive golf program, rigorous academic environment, and proximity to Claremont.
Xu still is undecided when it comes to what she wants to major in, but Stanford gives its students until spring of sophomore year to decide. However, Xu thinks she will major in either philosophy or political science. After college, Xu hopes to play professional golf in the Ladies Professional Golf Association.
However, as she embarks on a new adventure at Stanford, Xu will miss her CHS golf teammates.
“I just love the entire team dynamic,” Xu said. “I love the girls that I’ve played with for all four years and I’m really close friends with all of them. All the time we spend together is a good memory”.
In particular, Xu thinks back to a specific memory during a CIF competition in Santa Barbara.
“After CIF one time we went to The Habit with our coach,” Xu said. “It was the original Habit in Santa Barbara and everyone was mad at me … because they wanted to go somewhere nicer but it ended up being the best idea ever,”
Xu would like to shout out Coach Lynch and Coach Frank for being really supportive through her four years as a member of the golf team.
