In the world of aesthetics, everyone can agree that Pinterest is the go-to for inspiration. However, for Claremont High School students, it is Trina Nguyen. Known for her artistic skills and dream-like Instagram portfolio, Nguyen will undoubtedly carry on her “it-girl” legacy at the University of California, San Diego. Alongside her creative passions, Nguyen has an insatiable sweet tooth and plans to eat as many sweets as possible in her new environment.
Nguyen will be majoring in psychology this fall in the hopes of becoming a pediatric nurse. She is interested in social work, as her experiences branching out of CHS to the greater community inspired her to continue that work in the real world.
“Something I found interesting was social work,” Nguyen said. “I guess I really want to help people!”
Nguyen’s goals are no surprise, as she has created a well-rounded career at CHS. She has been president of Project Smile for two years, secretary of CHS Doctors Without Borders, and an active member of PAWS for change and Key Club. Outside of campus, Nguyen has devoted countless hours to working at a local pharmacy and serving weekends as a leader at her church youth group. Additionally, Nguyen volunteered at the Pomona Valley Hospital for a year, concentrating on the gift shop, labor and delivery department, and the discharge lounge.
Beyond her personal accomplishments, Nguyen recalls a memorable aspect of CHS being the dedication of teachers.
“In certain classes, there was always one teacher who was super passionate about what they taught,” Nguyen said. “I think that was one of the best things about CHS academics.”
Moreover, some of Nguyen’s favorite memories came from AP biology, where study sessions turned into moments of laughter.
“I was with a bunch of my friends, and we would always either be locked in or so distracted,” Nguyen said. “But it was super fun just hanging around during class or studying together. We even hosted a fidget secret Santa.”
As the school year wraps up, Nguyen shares her insight and wisdom with the underclassmen.
“I think everyone says this, but make sure to enjoy school,” Nguyen said. “It’s really exhausting when you come home every day hating school because you won’t have any motivation to get up the next day! Don’t make it all about studying but also don’t mess around too much! You need that balance.”
To recognize the people she appreciates, Nguyen shoutouts her favorite teacher.
“Shoutout to Mrs. Bodnar! She’s the literal GOAT,” Nguyen said. “I love her as a teacher. And to all my friends who are always there for me!”
