The recent national and global events have signified changes in the United States and have revealed characteristics about those in power. In sight of the temporary ceasefire in Gaza, President Donald Trump has launched a new initiative, the Board of Peace, in collaboration with two dozen other countries, to help preserve peace in Gaza. The Board of Peace has helped by pledging five billion dollars to help rebuild Gaza during the shaky ceasefire, a fraction of the estimated 70 billion needed to fully rebuild what was destroyed during the war. The Board had its inauguration meeting on February 19, 2026, with representatives from over 40 countries in attendance. This meeting focused on helping Gaza by implementing the second phase of a Gaza peace initiative. The Board of Peace’s charter named Donald Trump chairman for life; sixty countries were invited into the Board. However, no Sub-Saharan countries in Africa received an invitation. Each permanent member of the Board is required to give a billion dollars to renew their membership every three years.
Freshman Jayden Jordan shared his thoughts on Trump’s Board of Peace. “I think it’s one of Trump’s better ideas for America,” Jordan said. The Board of Peace has the potential to foster peace; it could eliminate war across the entirety of Africa, and if Trump is truly serious about this Board helping everyone in Gaza, it could be one of the best things he does with his presidency.
