With the graduation for CHS’s class of 2024 quickly approaching, there is one particular student who displays the ideals of kindness and empathy unlike any other: Steven Lomas. Lomas is currently a senior at CHS, looking forward to a future that is not necessarily a conventional path for students here, as he prepares to take a brave leap and enter the military.

At eighteen, Lomas has the next decade of his life laid out for him. First, he plans on serving in the military for four years. This process will involve a lot of traveling – both in and out of the various US military bases – a prospect Lomas is most excited about when looking to the future. After the military, Lomas intends to enroll in a community college, before finally enrolling in trade school, where he hopes to become an automotive mechanic.

“To be honest I have just never seen myself going to university,” Lomas said. “Early on in high school I realized that academics were not my strong suit, and ever since, I have focused on pursuing a different path.”

Some of Lomas’ biggest passions include playing soccer for Claremont High School, and working out — a hobby he has recently engaged in to meet the physical requirements for the military.

Lomas’ favorite aspect of being at Claremont High School was the schedule it gave him.

“The organization was something I always appreciated, and is part of the reason I want to join the military,” Lomas said.

When asked about his favorite memory from his time at Claremont High School, Lomas remembered the Senior prank from his freshman year, when the seniors parked a boat in the middle of the central quad.

With Lomas moving forward into a new chapter of his life, he would like to thank his girlfriend Natalia who has been his biggest supporter throughout high school. With no doubts about it, the awaiting future is bright for Steven Lomas.
