From being a dedicated Interbaclourate Diploma student to being a part of Claremont’s Hispanic Honors Society and being an active member of Claremont High’s Link Crew, Navie Fernandez has accomplished so much in her high school career. She dedicates most of her time to reading to aid her leadership in her book club at Claremont and watching movies. Currently, one of her favorite reads right now is Mariposa, a poetry book written by Kim Guerra. The poetry book takes the perspective of being Mexican-American and expands on it in a whole new light. She also spends lots of time with her friends which is a huge reason as to why she ran for prom court.
“My other friends ran, and they made it as well,” Fernandez said. “It was a really cool experience. My mom also ran for her winter court in high school. Claremont, sadly, does not have a winter court, so instead, she motivated me to run for prom court.”
When reflecting on her nomination, she was surprised that she was nominated but was grateful nevertheless. She stated that while she would be happy to win, it would mean the world to her if her friends won with her.
Fernandez remarked that even if she didn’t make it, she would still be just as happy if her friends made it. Her favorite memories at Claremont consist of her ‘after dance’ tradition where she joins her friends and listens to music while unwinding.
With prom marking the end of her senior year, Fernandez hopes that at Cal. State Fullerton she can double major in history and psychology. Afterward, she hopes to pursue a PhD in either subject and become a professor. Fernandez would like to shout out her close friend L’Mio Edwards for being incredibly supportive throughout the years.
