There are many helpful, hard-working, and dedicated parents at CHS, and Sandra Lopez is one of them. Lopez is the booster president for boys varsity basketball and chose to join because of her son Jacob Lopez who is on the team. She spends a lot of time making sure the basketball program is running correctly, commuting herself to the job. Lopez’s main job is handling the financial business, maintaining the goal of raising $45,000 a year. She takes care of all the fundraising for the team, making sure that there is enough money to buy uniforms, basketballs, referees, and other things that the the team might be in need for. With her son starting basketball at a young age, Lopez has been involved since the start of his career.
“I really enjoy being involved and supporting my son,” Lopez said.
Along with being booster president, Lopez has three other children that play sports and are involved in school activities, while still making sure all here duties are still taken care of. Her daughter Jasmine was on the El Roble cheer team, and is now on junior varsity cheer for CHS. Lopez also has two other children, therefore she tries her best to stay mutually involved with each of them.
During meetings, Lopez and the boosters work to achieve their money goal, brainstorming ideas and creating new plans for the team, striving for new and improved ways to fundraise which brings its own problems as the search for donors and people willing to help fundraisers tends to get difficult. However, being on the team booster has helped give Lopez the opportunity to build new relationships and friends which helps make the process feel much more at ease.
“I have a lot of support from the other parents, so I don’t mind the work,” Lopez said.
Without parent boosters, CHS would not have funded sports, so their dedication to the teams are appreciated by many. The basketball games are very popular for students to attend and these games would not run without the help of the parents. Overall, all of her hard work towards the team is very helpful, and basketball will go on to achieve their goals thanks to Lopez and the rest of the boosters.
