“Var-Sydney” Hwang
Sensational running legend, Wolfpacket Features editor, and CHS junior Sydney Hwang is the October Athlete of the Month. Hwang has been a part of the CHS Girls’ Varsity Cross Country team since freshman year. The Girls’ Varsity Cross Country team is currently ranked #8 in the U.S., with Hwang as one of the team’s top runners.
When the Varsity Cross Country teams flew to Idaho on Sept. 23 for the Bob Firman Invite, Hwang finished 10th overall in the Girls’ Varsity Elite race, playing a key role in the Claremont girls’ 1st place victory by a close three points. At the Clovis Invitational last weekend, she finished 9th out of 179 runners in the championship race and set the new school record for 5000 meters (approximately 3.1 miles) with an incredible time of 17:35.
Always seen with a big smile on her face, Hwang can be found shopping at the nearest Sprouts, cooking healthy foods, and reading. Fantastic job, Sydney!
