The arts and entertainment sector of Claremont High School cheers her fame; the lead roles sporther name as, Sofia Porras’ performative side takes a leap from Claremont High School’s theater to Citrus College’s psychology program for a year before transferring to UC.
When questioned about her major choice, Porras answered thoughtfully.
“I wanted to pursue music,” Porras said. “[and] if I can’t pursue music for my degree, then I’ll pursue psych[ology].”
She believes that it is important to have a good understanding of yourself and others.
“I like the therapeutic aspects of psychology,” Porras said. “If someone needs help and they come to me, then I can use what I have learned to help, and talk to them with a good understanding. It’s nice.”
Aside from her love for psychology, Porras also has an enormous amount of enthusiasm for the performing arts.
“I like theater, music, art, and fencing,” Porras said. “Performing is my favorite thing ever.” Porras said. When asked for her feelings about leaving high school, Porras shared what she will miss the most.
“I’ll miss being able to see my friends every single day,” Porras said. “And [I will miss] the community that I’ve made within the theater, since I’ve been here for four years with the same people.”
“I would like to give a special thanks to Elise Connelly and Alison Veramantes, because they are my best friends,” Porras said. “I’ve known them both for basically four years, and we’ve been close since sophomore year as a trio. They are the two of the best people I could ask for, and I’m going to miss them so much. I love talking to them and ranting with them, I love our little car talks, and everything. I would also like to shout out the theater department. I think that everyone should join the theater if they have a chance. It’s fun.” Porras said.
Finally, Porras shared her underclassmen advice.
“Just do what makes you happy, honestly,” Porras said. If you really want to do something and the group of people you’re with is just like, ‘ugh, no, don’t. That’s so weird.’, do it anyway.”
