Instagram is known for being the biggest social media platform on the internet, where millions share about themselves and their experiences. Lately, CHS has fallen subject to the exploit of our school on social media. When typing our school name into the Instagram search bar, the results are flooded with all kinds of CHS Instagram accounts, ranging from bad posture to posts about CHS heartthrobs. The most popular account of all, is one that some may say is the pioneer to them all: _chs_sleepers.

_chs_sleepers has obtained 724 followers since the account first started in late November of 2021. What exactly is _chs_sleepers and what is the appeal to it that attracts so many students? The account features exactly what its name implies:people at CHS who have been caught sleeping at school. The page showcases students, teachers, and even substitutes taking a snooze. The owner of _chs_sleepers shares their inspiration for the creation of this Instagram account.

“At first, I saw on TikTok that other schools had sleepers accounts,” _chs_sleepers said. “I wanted our school to have one, but at the time there wasn’t that many CHS accounts. I had an extra account, so I made it into _chs_sleepers.”

_chs_sleepers has a total of 129 posts on the Instagram account, which is no small feat. Receiving constant submissions, the owner of _chs_sleepers is always working to make sure posts are out. _chs_sleepers is well on its way to reaching one thousand followers, but the future of the account is uncertain.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in future years, I’ll try to do it for as much as I can this year,” _chs_sleepers said. “I would’ve given it to someone else to handle it but the way I made the instagram account is I connected it to my main account. The only way to log in is to go through my main, so I can’t give it to anyone.”

Since the creation of _chs_sleepers, a multitude of other accounts have been made. The grand total of CHS accounts that now exist somewhere on the internet is over 25. The most popular include _chs_sleepers, chs.heartthrobs, chs_bad_posture0, chs_.emos, and claremonthighgrubbers. The popularity of these Instagram accounts has surged and any niche one may wish for can become a reality now. However, many like _chs_sleepers are conflicted about the future of their accounts. This increase in popularity may just be one big spike and like many trends will soon die out.
One of these accounts that is coming to an end include is chs.heartthrobs, which formerly posted photos of students on campus that were sent in as heartthrobs. This was one of the more positive accounts and it is unfortunately coming to an end.

“I believe that encouraging students to put themselves in the spotlight will boost their self-esteem greatly in part due to the positivity they will receive in the comment section,” chs.heartthrobs said.

Another very popular account is chs_bad_posture0 which, as its name implies, posts photos of curved backs and students who lack good posture. It serves as a reminder to all CHS students who visit the page.

“Sit up straight, and don’t be late,” chs_bad_posture0 said.

Some accounts work to bring positivity to students, while others are simply there to make school just a bit more enjoyable and entertaining. All of these accounts are based off of the content that students send in, which creates an engaging aspect. However when hateful comments get involved it can take down the camaraderie of accounts. In order to keep the accounts active and adding to the community rather than harming, it is up to the students to stay positive in the comments of these posts. The craze of creating Instagram accounts for CHS is at an all-time high, so keep your eyes peeled for new posts.
