Reeves Wins Best Coach with a Breeze
This year, CHS’s very own, Bill Reeves won 2016 Southern Section Fall Coach of the Year for girls cross country. Reeves was selected based on his achievements this year and his past service of 17 years in the CIF Southern Section. Reeves, and the rest of the fall winners, will be entered into the California Coaches’ Association State Coaches of the Year as finalists; the winner will be announced in June of this year.
In 1999, Reeves coached South High’s boys and girls to D3 CIF championships. Even with this accomplishment he feels that his latest achievement is more rewarding due to its state level difficulty and honor. With this year’s big win, Reeves does not hesitate in giving his team the credit for the hard work that was put into this season’s training and meets.
“I feel that this year’s team was very motivated, coachable, and dedicated. I’m looking forward to next year to see how far the 2017 team will go,” Reeves said.
Since joining the pack two years ago Reeves really feels he has grown along with the support he has constantly felt from his team. Reeves acknowledges that all of the mentors and companions that he has coached under, and with, have had a great impact on how he coaches today. Welcomed with open arms, the cross country team has been able to learn and grow with his instruction and coaching techniques.
“After becoming our head coach two years ago, Coach Reeves has been very committed to creating a strong program that has lead our team to victory,” senior and girls cross country captain Annie Boos said. “He is very deserving of this award because he cares about each individual and he understands what it takes to develop a winning team.”
Reeves has coached ten league championship teams, four Southern Section championships, and two state championship teams, showing his capabilties in coaching. With his successful past and prospective future, Reeves and his team are looking forward to this coming season.
