In the large ecosystem that is our school, there exists a subtle yet strange phenomenon: teacher cliques. Like high school students, our educators have found their kindred spirits, forging alliances based on shared quirks and interests.
The Mean Girl Squad: Every student has a love hate relationship with a teacher, none more intense than with Queen B Frau Tsai. This school’s biggest overachiever, Tsai orchestrates events that put Coachella to shame, remaining power-hungry, she is sure to leave an impression while recruiting for the German language program. Then there’s Mrs. Kao, forever on the lookout to catch someone in the act. Don’t even think about trying to sneak a peek at your phone in her class. However, If you’re ever in need of a reality check, Mrs. Kao’s sharp eye is sure to deliver. Finally, we have our very own gossip girl, Mrs. Lee. Revered by most and feared by some, she is sure to tell you the harsh truths of life.
The Class Clowns: They say laughter is the best medicine, and in our hallowed halls, Ms. Mittman and Mr. Barcelona have taken it upon themselves to be the resident healers. Ms. Mittman, with her clever wordplay and talent for lifting spirits, is a creative force to be reckoned with. On the other hand, Mr. Barcelona, the newest addition to this merry gang, brings an arsenal of dad jokes and puns. Together they balance in the thin line of cringey and funny.
The Geeks and Nerds: Embracing his inner geek, Mr. Burke is so fascinated with all things star wars you would think he has a Wookiee for a pet. Meanwhile, Mr. Thomas is the encyclopedia of random facts, ready to drop historical knowledge like it is confetti at a parade. Challenge him at your own risk. Within the geeks and nerds, there seems to be a niche clique; TheaterKids. The stage is their kingdom, and Mrs. Gomez and Dr. Wilson are ready to take the spotlight. Mrs. Gomez, a former thespian and proud Hamilton stan, brings performance energy to every in class lecture; Honestly the best enlightenment era philosopher impersonator on campus. Dr. Wilson, with his musical theater prowess and flair for the dramatic, could rival Shakespeare himself and is considered the undisputed ComedySportz champion.
The Jocks: Flexing both brains and brawn, Mrs. Carvalho leads the charge. By day, she’s crunching numbers with the best of them, but by night, she transforms into the cross-country assistant coach, ready to turn any hesitant runner into a track star. Joining her is Mrs. Crowell, a track enthusiast who can outrun any Olympic medalists, especially the ones that do not run. And let’s not forget Mr. Campuzano, the PE teacher who’s everyone’s favorite coach. He’s the MVP of soccer PE and the undisputed king of kickball.
The Goodies: Some of the students favorite teachers are those particularly friendly ones who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Ms Nicoll, kind and approachable, seems to have found her partner in crime: Mr. DeJulio. Together, they form a dynamic duo that is as enigmatic as it is endearing. Meanwhile, Mrs. Crilly, known for her fabulous nails and an uncanny ability to be everywhere at once, has friends in every corner of the school. If something is happening, rest assured, Mrs. Crilly knows about it. Not to forget Mr. Easton, a favorite amongst many students who perceive his “vibes“ as hip and cool. Some however speculate on his sincerity as he is “too nice“. Mr. Easton, hoping not to be caught gossiping with Mrs. Lee, during lunch, hides behind his large friend group leaving many questioning his true intentions.
Our school’s lively mix of teacher cliques brings a healthy dose of high school drama to the staff room. From the Mean Girl Squad, led by the ultimate Queen B Frau Tsai, to the Goodies that make you question how good they really are. Together the cliques share the cringe, the vibes, and the many girl dinners, these teachers turn the mundane into a quirky spectacle, one clique at a time.
