Athlete of the Month: Sydney La
The sensational varsity singles tennis player, CHS junior Sydney La is the Wolfpacket’s November 2021 Athlete of the Month. La has been on the varsity tennis team since freshman year, and has been playing tennis since she was six years old. La has helped guide the CHS varsity girls tennis team to the CIF playoffs and a Palomares League Championship for the third consecutive year.
When asked about her favorite memory of the tennis team, she goes back to her freshman year when the team beat Torrance in the quarterfinals by two games.
“We tied in sets so we had to count up the games one by one. The rush when we found out we won is something I’ll never forget,” La said.
The CHS Varsity girls tennis team made it to the second round of the CIF championship this year against Laguna Beach. To help them make it this far, La trained two hours a day, six days a week doing intense drills and long rallies every day.
Although the team wasn’t able to win the championship, La is extremely proud of how far her team went.
“We’ve been working extremely hard and I’m very proud [of how well we played],” La said.
In the future, while La doesn’t know where she will go to college, she definitely wants to continue playing tennis if given the opportunity.
When she is not playing tennis or doing homework, La enjoys hanging out with friends and family and watching movies. La would like to shout out her friends Maliha and Emily. Congratulations Sydney!
