The sketch of Galen Adolph’s future begins at Reed
There are many styles of art, from chaotic and shocking creative statements to calmer and more simplistic shades of color. Galen Adolph can do both with a careful attention to detail and an emphasis on quality, whether it be for his art classes, for the Wolfpacket, or for his casual sketches during the day. As his time at CHS comes to a close, he looks forward to carrying his artistic talents to Reed College, potentially majoring in art, in some form or another.
“[Reed] had everything that I was looking for in a school: the setting, the programs they offered, the focus on academics rather than grades,” Adolph said.
Although Adolph is still not completely sure what he wants to major in, he says that it will probably be art history, history, or English. He is a curious person who loves learning for learning’s sake, trying out new things and taking new classes to expand his worldview. Although his love for learning has evolved with time, his passion for art has remained the same for a long time.
“I’ve always loved art,” Adolph said. “I’m lucky to have parents who support my love for art and my creative interests. My favorite styles of art now are European academic art, realist art from France in the 19th century.”
Beyond the artist’ss’ influences that inspire his work, Adolph maintains his distinctive style, especially for his drawings on paper. For the Wolfpacket, his work has varied from shocking and grotesque images that really stand out, notably in multiple satire pieces, to tongue-in-cheek depictions of the 2020 presidential candidates and student resource officers, impressing readers and staff members alike.
Adolph wants to keep doing art in his spare time at Reed, trying to always make it a big part of his life. He wants to carry on the new things he has learned in the last four years of art class that he has taken at CHS and keep exploring new styles and moods, wherever that takes him.
Beyond art, Adolph wants to do various outdoor activities such as hiking and biking. He is very excited about the atmosphere that the Pacific Northwest brings, especially the landscape and the large areas of green that are all too common in the region. His friends and family wish him the best of luck as he moves on to the next chapter of his life up north.
