Cuisine of Claremont – a special on Claremont Cones

Move over, Baskin Robbins — Claremont Cones is in town.

Opened a little over three months ago by next-door’s Round Table Pizza owner, Max Zed, Claremont Cones has been bustling with customers since its grand opening. After the retirement of the former Baskin Robbins owner and the succeeding closing up of the shop, the space in the Vons shopping center looked a little sparse. Zed, who bought Round Table Pizza around 16 years ago, decided to open Claremont Cones in its place.

“The process was quite a bit, actually,” Zed said. “We had to clean up, remodel, and buy new cabinets, countertops, refrigerators, lighting, and signage. We opened Claremont Cones and chose not to go with a franchise instead, because then we could bring a variety of products.”

And variety is one of Claremont Cones’ most notable features indeed. The new ice cream shop boasts a monster menu of more than 15 different items, including acai bowls, vegan ice cream choices, bubble waffles, cotton candy burritos, shaved ice, dog ice cream, smoothies, frappes, milkshakes, and more. Additionally, Claremont Cones features a new type of ice cream called Super Premium ice cream, a high-grade, high-end ice cream from a new manufacturer.

The most popular items on the menu, according to Zed, include Cookie Monster ice cream, cotton candy burritos, and rainbow sherbets.

“We appreciate the community; they’ve been very, very supportive,” Zed said. “I love when I see the faces of the kids and how happy they are when they get the ice cream. It’s just great.”

Claremont Cones is located in the Vons shopping center on 602 E. Baseline Rd., Claremont, CA 91711.
