Lyle Mideiros and Isla Bulmer have rewritten the record books throughout their high school cross country careers. The duo recently capped off their four years, leaving behind an unprecedented legacy. They are no strangers to competing at high levels, having made consistent appearances at the state and national level.
What has made their experience more special is gaining motivation and pushing each other to success. The duo has established a fun tradition all throughout high school.
“Lyle and I started taking pictures after races ‘cause we would finish within the same three spots and it kind of became a tradition, so now when I race, I try to run as fast as I can so we can flick up,” Bulmer said.
“Freshman year, when I saw Isla performing well at the state level, I wanted to do the same,” Mideiros said. “Isla pushes me to be better.”
“I am the lone alpha wolf; you can quote that.”
Lyle Llewelyn Otis Mideiros is the epitome of grit and talent. Mideiros has been an integral part of the Wolfpack for th past four years. From having a breakout freshmen season to settin the school record four times his senior year, he is, without a doubt, a once-in-a-generation athlete. His leadership, pas-sion, and drive have set the tone for the entire team.
“It has been a blessing to be a part of the Claremont legacy and bring a sense of focus and determination, Mideiros said.
This season, Mideiros climbed to the top of the podium, finishing as runner up in the Southern Sec-tion, fourth in Division Two and seventh overall in the state, and making the First All Regionals Team. While reaccounting his race at CIF State, Mideiros reflected on his running career. “Someone screamed at me that it was my last two minutes of my high school season, and it did not hit me until after my race,” Mideiros said.
“This season, what a ride it has been.
Isla Bulmer has established herself as a top competitor in the state, climbing the rankings throughout her time at Claremont High School (CHS). This season, she led the girls team to the CIF Southern Section Championship title, had a second place D2 finish at state, and solidified the team’s 21st place ranking in the nation.
“From the early morning long runs to nighttime workouts on the track, there is no better feeling than seeing the hard work pay oft, not only in getting a personal record, but through watching my team succeed,” Bulmer said.
Individually, Bulmer set a record on the Clovis Course, earning her the school 5K record with a time of 17:28. She earned the prestigious titles of league MVP, CIF Southern Section runner up, and fifth in D2 state.
On and off the course, Bulmer is a role model, leader, and friend, leaving marks beyond just records. She is eternally grateful for her experience on the team.
“Nothing could have prepared me for the bonds I would make and how running would change my life,” Bulmer said.
