It was a dark and snowy night in suburbia, the calendar freshly marked November 1st. The wind blew away the ghouls and filled the air with gingerbread and snow. Through the frosty window an iced over graveyard is staring back at you. A beautiful centerpiece, Mariah Carey has begun her annual thaw. But something is different…Christmas must be coming early, because this year Mariah has set her sights on more than just holiday cheer. This Christmas, Mariah has a special present just for you; revenge. As the first note escapes her icy prison, the cold realization hits. This is not just Mariah Carey… this is Mariah Scary.
Enter our unsuspecting group of college students. They have gathered deep in the woods near the graveyard, ready to explore the legend of the haunted ice block. Getting the party started is Jake the comedian, meanwhile May, our favorite influencer, has her sights set on capturing the real Mariah Carey in her thaw to post it all over Instagram.
“This is going viral! #MariahUnthawed,” she says, already setting up her tripod. Lily tries talking some sense into her.
“Mariah Carey isn’t real, she can’t hurt us, it’s just a dumb ghost story.”
And Terry, who wants to go home. The group sets up camp at the edge of the forest, overlooking the snow-speckled graveyard, the air growing unnervingly still. But just as they begin to settle in, an unmistakable sound breaks the silence. The first note of the season fills the air.
“I.. don’t want a lot for Christmas.”
Suddenly, an ethereal glow erupts from the graveyard. In the distance, surrounded by ice, a figure slowly starts to move. It is her, Mariah Carey.
As she steps closer to the group, her intentions become less and less clear.
“There is just one thing I need…”
May sets up her tripod to begin live streaming.
“OMG! Mariah Carey is here guys!” May said. “Chat, is this real?”
Small notifications chime from her phone, but Lily remains unconvinced.
“It’s just a coincidence, May,” Lily said. “Mariah Carey is just a regular celebrity. She’s not gonna-“
“I don’t care about the presents…”
In one fell swoop, Mariah lunges at May. Her phone slips out of her hand, cracking and freezing over as it hits the ground.
“What the-! HELP!” May said, reaching for her friends as her skin turned pale and cold.
“It’s… so cold…” May said.
Mariah’s wrapped May in a cold embrace, and May begins to freeze into an icy prison of her own.
“MAY! NOOOOOOOOOO!” Terry said, rushing towards May, who was now nothing but a block of ice.
“Well… I guess she did want a lot for Christmas…” Jake said, trying to lighten the mood. Mariah Scary’s head did a full 180, twisting like an owl to peer at Jake, her eyes glazed over.
“Wuh oh! Tough crowd!” Jake said, before being turned into another cube of ice.
“Underneath the Christmas tree..”
Terry, now petrified, slowly turns to Lily.
“Yeah, no, I’m out.” Terry said while already bolting, leaving Lily in the dust.
“WAIT- TERRRYYYYYY!! NOOOOO YOU CAN’T-“ Lily said.
Just then, Lily realized this was no time for lollygagging and she locked in, running away from the graveyard in a last-ditch effort of survival. Mariah followed suit after her, determined to have three ice cubes in return for hers melting.
“Mariah! This isn’t you!” Lily said, jumping over a grave.
Mariah was in fact a tough crowd and did not buy it. Lily could not fix her. She caught up to Lily and her icy touch did its work. The last note of Christmas rang over three icy college students, and one traumatized Terry.
“All I want for Christmas… is you(r dead body)”
