SLATE, CRANE, and ADIEU. These words are familiar to Wordle players across the world. Wordle is a simple game where users try to guess a random 5 letter word. Who knew that this game would become the face of the franchise for the New York Times daily games? From playing in the middle of English class, to playing at lunch with their friends, kids across the world are swept by this wave of the Wordle. But what is it about this simple game that has people so attached to it, returning daily? Well, the answer lies in the very system schools have to prevent these games from being accessed by students.
Schools have cracked down on the problem of students playing games in class by implementing a firewall blocking all games. As a result, because of the lack of game websites like Cool Math Games and even 2048 cupcakes, students have turned to the Wordle, other NYT games like Strands and Connections, and even Scratch. Yet, with its simplicity and epicness, the Wordle has captivated the attention of thousands of students across classrooms. “It’s just a simple, fun game that captivates your attention instantly,” CHS sophomore Jakeb Wise said. The Wordle is a game where people guess a 5 letter word in 5 attempts. Even though this game sounds lame, it has grabbed the minds of students and has gained popularity.
It is safe to say that the Wordle is one of the most popular games to play in class. With the yellow and green squares being the primary factor for one’s joy, aka the state of being HAPPY, this simple game has hooked thousands of people, especially students, around the globe.
