An Ode to the King: Arnold Palmer’s Legacy
On Sep. 25, 2016 Arnold Palmer, often referred to as the “king of golf” passed away at the age of 87. The former professional golf player left behind a legacy on and off the golf course. On the course he won 62 titles on the PGA Tour, He finished second in the U.S. Open four times, was runner-up three times in the PGA Championship, and was inducted in the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
Off the golf course, he received awards for his incredible charitable acts. In 2004 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, then 8 years later went on to accept the Congressional Gold medal. Palmer had won virtually all possible awards a civilian could win granted by the government and almost any award imaginable for Golf. On top of all these achievements even had a famous Arizona iced tea named after him. But even with all this fame, it didn’t change Palmer.
Palmer was able to connect with people no matter if they were a president, CEO or an average person. His kindness was extensive and he was no stranger to charity. Palmer helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars for charities by encouraging people to donate or by donating his own money.
The death came a few days after Palmer was admitted to the hospital due to cardiovascular issues. Arnold Palmer left behind a family of two adult children, many fans, and numerous friends. With so much fame, adoration, and success in all aspects of his life, Arnold palmer’s legacy will not soon be forgotten.
