A Road to Remember: Homecoming 2015 Princess Christine Hyun and Prince Jack Kolodge
Christine Hyun:
With her trademark winged eyeliner, Christine Hyun begins her last year of high school as a princess on Homecoming Court. Describing herself hard working, passionate, and random, Hyun is involved in many activities. From dancing, to studying, to playing the piano and arts, Hyun continues to do the things she loves in and out of school.
At CHS, Hyun is extremely involved in multiple activities. She has been a member of the CHS Dance Team for four years and is currently a captain of the team. She is also a member of Speech and Debate and has been since her freshman year, her main events being Original Oratory and Original Expository Speech. This is not all though, as Hyun is a part of two clubs, I Am Second and Diakoneo, which have helped her grow in her religion as well as helped her grow as a person throughout her years at CHS.
As Hyun plans for college, she plans to attend a four year university either here in California or in New York. Although the level of academic rigor is extremely important to Hyun, outside the classroom life is equally as important to her, as she wants to be able to experience city life and enjoy all aspects of being a college student. Hyun plans to major in biochemistry or East Asian Studies in college, and being Korean American, she hopes to learn about her own culture and history at a higher level.
“I would be so blessed to attend any university, and I am very grateful that college is a realistic possibility that I aim to pursue,” Hyun Said.
In ten years, Hyun hopes to have graduated college and medical school and to be finishing up her residency in pediatrics. She also hopes to help the human rights issue concerning the Comfort Women during WWII and wants to fix the exploitation of people living in the dictatorial regime of North Korea. She hopes to accomplish things that aid the development of substantial change and justice.
Throughout her high school years, many experiences have shaped her into the person who she is today. Although she never lost sight of what was important for her, Hyun believes that there is still much room for growth. Being content with knowing she has big passions that she aims to pursue in the future, Hyun believes that these passions reveal a lot about who she is as a person.
Jack Kolodge:
Not knowing Jack Kolodge is like missing out on the heart of CHS. Everyone who has met him knows of the positive impact he has on everyone and everything around him. Senior Kolodge can’t help but smile and have a good attitude, even when times get tough.
“I don’t like to be negative a lot, so a good motto for me would be don’t worry, be happy. I like to bring happiness to people around me and when people are down I want to make them happy,” Kolodge said.
Being involved with ASB for three years, Ocean Lovers Society Club, Waterwise Club, lots of community service and also being captain of his club soccer team and CHS varsity soccer; Kolodge knows how to stay busy. He is hoping to attend a four year university, and has his eye on Occidental College, where he has been in contact with the soccer coach, and hopes to play there. He also has hopes of majoring in something he enjoys, his interests include finance of kinesiology.
His spirits are high as he imagines the future in a career he enjoys. Kolodge is hoping to live in or near a beach city. Kolodge’s role models are David Beckham and Rob Dyrdek, but his personal idol is Jack Harper, who he thinks is very wise and always brings joy to what he does.
His favorite high school memories consist of CIF Soccer, including everything from playing, to watching, to the general atmosphere of the games. His biggest regret has been the seemingly incurable disease of procrastination, having the greatest effect on him junior year, but claims it has been improving. Kolodge’s most embarrassing moments at CHS involve any and all forms of public speaking; the most memorable one was the Great Debate sophomore year.
Whether on the field or in the classroom, Kolodge’s warm smile can make anyone feel welcome. As Kolodge draws support from his idols and experiences at CHS, he has hopes that his hard work from years of soccer, ASB, various clubs and community service will payoff into his dream college and job someday.
