Homecoming: King Markelle Davis And Queen Raven Wilbur

Markelle Davis
Representing football, the Ocean Lovers Society and all things CHS, King Markelle Davis is a high school senior who has had a very interesting high school experience. He is very involved and has made many memories during his academic career at CHS.
“It seems like just yesterday I was attending school as a freshman, trying to find the quads and classrooms, and it’s crazy because life is about to hit me,” Davis said.
Davis is a very athletic and active person. On the CHS football team his positions are defensive end, fullback, and running back. Davis enjoys and works hard in football, these traits are reflected in CHS’s impeccable undefeated record. For football,
Davis is planning to attend Mt. SAC, then transfer to either UCLA or Utah State. From there, he wants to go into the NFL. If he does not make it to the NFL, he would like to be a ranking officer for the fire department.
Davis also participates in the Ocean Lovers Society. The Ocean Lovers Society raises awareness of environmental conservation and appreciates the ocean. In three words Markelle Davis would describe himself as athletic, kind and fun. These three qualities are reflected in Davis’ personal beliefs. Davis credits his success to his parents for making him the person he has become.
Davis emphasizes the importance of working hard and setting goals. He likes to joke around and thinks that being serious is not one of his personal traits. For his time at CHS, Davis would like to thank the football team, Steve Boyd, Richard O’Neill, Lena Carter, multiple squads, Chief Keef, and his parents. Davis’ favorite quote is, “To be great is to be misunderstood” by Ralph Emerson. He lives by this quote, whether he is participating in the Ocean Lovers Society or playing football.
“When people see someone that is great, that’s all they see. They don’t see the work or hours that person put in to being great,” Davis said.
Overall, Markelle Davis’ outlook on CHS and life is very positive. He categorizes himself as the type of guy that likes to have fun and work hard. He strives to do the best he can no matter the circumstances.
Raven Wilbur
From planning ASB events to leading beach cleanups, Homecoming Queen Raven Wilbur is a very involved student in both CHS and her community. Wilbur is an IB full Diploma Candidate, and she has been a member of ASB for four years. Wilbur would like to thank her class of 2016 for supporting her through high school.
“I thank you for many years of good memories and lovely support. You have always believed in me, cheered me on, and been a great group of individuals that is not only unique but truly rare. Our unity has shined through dark times, stressful phases, growth as adolescents, and our greatest victories. Without your love and warmth, I would not be who I am today, and I say this sincerely. I look forward to seeing your beautiful babies on Facebook in 15 years or so,” Wilbur said.
One experience that stood out to Wilbur was planning the 2015 Prom at the Santa Anita Racetrack. The most memorable aspect of this experience, however, was the relationships that came from it.
She is also the president of Ocean Lovers’ Society. Through this club, she has served the community by fundraising and raising awareness for environmental conservation and the protection of the ocean. On a smaller scale, she has been a Fresh Start Leader and is now becoming an active organizer of bringing the Comunity’s Teen Emergency Response Team, CERT, to CHS. Wilbur is looking at several schools, such as UC Berkeley, Scripps, and UC Santa Cruz. Wilbur intends to major in biology; however, she is keeping both her mind and options open to change.
“I want to dive into how our world and the way living things function down to the molecular level. The future of medicine and solutions for environmental problems lies in the chemistry of living things, so I would love to engage in further research in that area,” Wilbur said.
Wilbur also has plans for her future after college.
“In 50 years, I see myself living in a hut on the hillsides of Kauai, living off of the land and drinking coffee and coconut milk all from my garden in between my trips to the water,” said Wilbur.
Wilbur is looking forward to a very bright future and strengthening and forming relationships with many people this year.
