CHS student athletes have the potential to achieve college sports greatness, and CHS is lucky enough to recognize two students who are committed to play at the collegiate level. Both students, sophomore Emily Rohrer and junior Jake Gentry possess amazing talent and extraordinary dedication to their chosen sports. Rohrer has decided to take her talents to USC and Gentry chose to play for APU.
Emily Rohrer started playing volleyball when she was only nine years old and has been playing year round ever since. She currently plays volleyball for the Tstreet Volleyball Club in Irvine, and trains approximately five times a week with
Troy Tanner, an Olympic gold medalist in Men’s Volleyball. It was not until she was in eighth grade that she really started to consider what her future in volleyball would look like, specifically at the collegiate level. It was at this time
that Rohrer started to receive letters from various Division 1 volleyball schools. Rohrer primarily focused her interests on schools near her home and chose USC because of its beautiful campus. Its reputation for being a renowned private school with great academic programs and a prestigious sports program was also a factor in her decision.
“I really like the coaching style that USC has to offer. It’s a huge accomplishment and I feel extremely blessed,” Rohrer said.
Gentry is also looking forward to playing sports at the collegiate level, as he recently committed to APU. Gentry has been playing baseball since he was two years old and has played with CHS varsity for two years. Last year, he was chosen to be a part of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune Underclass All Star Game, which chooses the best athletes from around San Gabriel to play on a prestigious team. Nevertheless, Genty regards his greatest accomplishment as his commitment to play baseball for APU. Gentry’s parents and coaches, who have been there every step of the way throughout his baseball career, are extremely excited for him to embark on this amazing and well-deserved opportunity to play for APU.
“God had a plan for me and my life, and it was through the support of my family, friends, coaches, and hard work that I was able to receive a great opportunity to play at the next level,” Gentry said.
Both athletes, humble in their respects, take great pride in their opportunities to play at the next level. CHS is extremely fortunate to have such amazing athletes and hope for the best as Rohrer and Gentry continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. APU and USC are fortunate enough to have such skilled players on their teams.
