CHS Tennis Player Works Her Way to Top Tournaments in the World

Being an international tennis star and high school student can definitely be difficult for the regular person, but senior Gabby Andrews handles her tennis success and school work like a pro. Andrews has been playing tennis since she was five years old and in that time she has competed in several countries. Andrews has won several awards, including the U.S. Junior Doubles in Flushing Meadows, New York in 2012 as well as the Australian Open Junior Doubles in Melbourne, Australia in 2012.

Gabby Andrews was home-schooled up until this year. In addition, she just so happens to have several prestigious tennis accomplishments, but still manages to be a normal high schooler. Andrews has competed in tournaments with her partner Taylor Townsend, who is currently a professional tennis player. Andrews is also the youngest competitor to compete in Wimbledon, and is ranked number one in the country in the 18 & Under age division from 13-17 years of age. As well as winning and competing in prestigious tournaments, Andrews has represented the U.S. by going to other countries to play tennis.

“I have also represented the United States in many occasions in countries such as the Czech Republic, France, and Spain,” Andrews said.

Aside from her athletic skills, Andrews has many hobbies. Including playing tennis and being in school, Andrews enjoys zumba dancing, shopping and just being around friends. Andrews is excelling at being a public school student for the first time. Being a major athlete and transitioning from home school to public school can be hard, but Andrews has excelled. Many people only saw Andrews as the elite athlete she is and the first few months were hard, but Andrews would eventually prevail.

“Well, the first 3 months were very difficult for me. I mean I didn’t know anyone and there were so many people! … I thought,’ Oh geez this is going to be real tough’ …but as the weeks went by I was slowly getting used to everything, meeting new people, and actually having a teacher there teaching you things face to face. But overall I’ve had a great time at Claremont High,” Andrews said.

Gabby Andrews is an athlete known internationally for her competitiveness and skill. She already has the rest of her tennis career planned out and the next step is at the prestigious University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Later, her goal is to play tennis professionally. As a newly public-schooled student and an international competitor, Andrews is ready to be a force on the court and in the classroom, so be sure to look out for this star athlete.
