American Football has been a staple of the United States for decades and is only growing more and more popular yearly. Almost every school has a football team, and that includes Claremont High. Our football team has been fighting for years, consistently putting in tremendous amounts of effort to represent our school. Jonathan Grelck, the Freshman/Sophomore team head coach, has been coaching with Claremont High for 9 years and is not showing signs of retiring. He played football in his Sophomore through Senior years of high school, and has continued to express his love for the sport ever since. Coach Grelck has been working at CHS almost since he graduated from Claremont High, as he was recruited by the coaches during that time.
As the Frosh head coach, Grelck has a tough job teaching newcomers how to play.
“We have a young group, they’re learning, they’re getting better every week,” Grelck said.
While Coach Grelck has been working at CHS for many years, the Varsity head coach has just had a change of hands. The position is now filled by Jake Caron, beginning his first year at CHS. Although new to our school, he has been coaching since 2018, making this year his seventh. Caron had been exposed to football since a young age, as coaching the sport is his family business, with his father coaching at the collegiate level for 25 years. As for his own playing history, Caron has been playing since he was able to: from youth, high school, collegiate, and now professional opportunities in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
As for this season, a large amount of changes to the CHS staff and roster have forced these coaches to “rebuild the program from the ground level,” as said by Caron.
These two coaches are only a piece of the puzzle that is the Claremont High football team, and in order to be successful, every single person needs to be able to work together and overcome different obstacles. With the new football season starting, the amount of potential in the team is limitless, and many are excited to see where the team will go.
