L’Mio Edwards is the epitome of dedication and hard work. Excelling in both athletics and academics, she is poised to make a significant impact in her future endeavors. Edwards embodies the ideals of a well-rounded student-athlete and community member. This fall, she will attend the University of Pennsylvania, where she plans to major in neuroscience and minor in health and business management through the prestigious Wharton School of Business. Alongside her academic pursuits, Edwards has also been recruited to compete on UPenn’s track and cross-country teams.

“I’m excited for the track season because the team is actually pretty competitive, and they have some incredibly fast runners. I think it’ll be a great change of pace and really exciting,” Edwards said.

As for running Edwards boasts of many accomplishments. Some of her most impressive finishes include, 2023 800 CIF Master Champion, 2024 800 CIF Master Runner-Up, a 5th place finish at the 2024 800 California State Championships, Palomares League XC Champ and a 11th place finish at the California DII XC Championships.

But nothing outshines her work ethic and character. During the pandemic Edwards started her campaign “5k a Day” to raise funds for those unable to afford food, where she vowed to run at least 5k everyday. Edwards has continued to serve in outreach programs and is an avid member of the community.

UPenn’s blend of academic excellence and athletic prowess was a major draw for Edwards. She has ambitious goals for her future, combining two of what some consider the hardest jobs in the world — becoming a professional athlete and taking a place in healthcare.

“I aim to pursue professional running, go to the Olympics, and then become a doctor. I want to specialize as a neurologist. My plan is to excel in both fields,” Edwards said.

Edwards success is no surprise as her hard work and dedication tells of her character. From countless early mornings practices to late night study sessions her ability to do it all makes her exceptional.

Reflecting on her high school years, Edwards’ favorite memory was the ride back from prom. She also wants to give a special shout-out to Alexa Shellmire, Navie Fernandez, and QuintinGiles-Gray.

“You guys are pretty awesome,” Edwards said.

Edwards’ journey is just beginning, and her determination and passion are sure to lead her to great achievements. Whether on the track, in the classroom, or during her future medical career, Edwards’ commitment to excellence will undoubtedly make her a standout in whatever field she chooses. She has already proven herself as a remarkable individual, and those who know her are confident that she will continue to inspire and make a difference.

Keep an eye out for L’Mio Edwards— this is just the beginning of her remarkable journey. With her unwavering dedication and ambition, there is no doubt that she will leave a lasting impact wherever she goes. Whether breaking records on the track or making breakthroughs in neuroscience, L’Mio Edwards is a name you are sure to hear more of in the future.
