The incredible amount of businesses in the world provide little margin for error when it comes to new ones. Despite this challenge, one Claremont High student, Maia Abergel, decided to explore the business of nails.
Abergel first decided to start her business after the Covid pandemic, which had given her a lot of time to explore different creative outlets, leading her to grow her skill in painting nails. She became so good at this that, eventually, her friends started to ask her to do their nails. This made her realize that most people her age do not go to salons to get their nails done often, and she could do it for them at a relatively cheap price.
Abergel enjoys her business for many reasons, with the main one being the ability to express herself creatively. Abergel says that being able to see and experiment with her capabilities is her favorite part of her business, being able to see where she is in her skill level and compare it to how she was when she started.
Managing a business is a lot of work, so Abergel works with her sister, Zohara Abergel (currently a junior at Claremont High) to help with her work’s social media and marketing aspects. With this help, Abergel plans to take her business through high school, expanding her number of clients. From what has been done so far, her business looks very successful. Her clients are consistently satisfied with their nails, and with more popularity, it is almost guaranteed to attract more people who want their nails done.
Although Abergel’s nail business looks very successful, it is also true that it wasn’t always easy. Over time Abergel has had to adapt when setbacks arise; changing the products she uses, the style of nails, and overall different outlooks on how to run her business.

Tavish N Brodie, Reporter
Tavish Brodie is a first year reporter for the Wolfpacket who has fallen down the Speech and Debate to Wolfpacket pipeline. When filling out the elective request form, Brodie was caught between Journalism and Photography, intrigued by the creative opportunities that each offered. Ultimately the journalism gods won out in a battle that will ultimately test the limits of Tavish’s creativity and debate honed time management/efficiency in his quest to deliver the highest quality video game reviews CHS has ever known. A linguistic legend, Tavish is enrolling in Spanish 3 as a freshman thanks to his many years of study leading up to high school. This year Brodie is excited to spend time with friends, learn from his cool teachers, and hopes to join the JV volleyball team in the spring. When you see him in the halls, know that our reporter is a chill friendly guy and the Wolfpacket is excited to have him on staff.
