The ever-flexible Features spread of the Wolfpacket, designed to keep readers in the know about the biggest issues of the month, is the responsibility of two equally in-the-know individuals on our staff: head editor Anna Jiang and co-editor Kate Mitchell. Just like the section, both of these CHS juniors are very involved with the world around them; they have found important positions on the Chess Club, Interact, Model United Nations, and the school tennis team, to name a few. In their free time, both enjoy listening to music and love following the trendiest artists. On top of all that, they chose to add “newspaper editor” to their repertoire for the fun of it; Anna recalls that she took up the position because her friend used to have it and enjoyed her job immensely. Likewise, Kate notes that the vibrant and fun aspects of the spread drew her to what both believe is the best section in the paper. Beyond just the fun of it, both editors cite relevance for the students of CHS as one of their top priorities when selecting page ideas. This aspiration to make something informative yet alluringly colorful has led to some of their favorite spreads ever, including the heavily thematic Thanksgiving and Chinese New Year spreads of years past. At the end of the day, though, their favorite thing about being editors is getting to collaborate on developing and discussing page ideas, laughing about the dumb ones they throw around in passing conversation, and having fun while they work. If you see these two on campus, make sure to thank them for all the work they do to make Features as fun and important as it is, even if a Features spread about the feature editors is a bit on the nose.

About the Contributors

Pablo Guevara, Co-Head News Editor
Ever since Pablo joined the Wolfpacket two years ago, he’s had something to say about politics. He started running Policy With Pablo (the Wolfpacket’s only column, focused on California laws) as a sophomore, edited and approved political hot takes in the Wolfpacket’s Opinion section as a junior, and is poised to deliver the truth on politics as a senior and Head Editor for the Wolfpacket’s News Section. Outside of class, he’s either working for a local politician, role-playing a US legislator as a captain on the school Debate team, or making political content on Instagram; you can’t deny that he’s always zeroed in on politics. His senior parking lot in the CHS parking lot is literally based on the US Constitution—you can’t make this stuff up. But at the same time, he thinks politics should be a fun and accessible topic for anyone, not just himself! If he can get at least one newcomer on the Wolfpacket staff to debate, discuss, and enjoy politics as much as he does, that’s a win in his book.

Mayo Ou, Head Editor-in-Chief
Mayo Ou is the Head Editor-in-Chief of the Wolfpacket and a senior at CHS in her fourth year on the staff. Her goal this year, other than not procrastinating on her college applications, is to figure out how to keep the Wolfpacket functioning and in print with her fellow EICs and the business team. Her passion on the paper is graphic design, but having previously been business and website manager as well as Head News Editor for two years means she knows (and loves) every part of the process. Outside of the Wolfpacket, Ou is the president of German club and Women in STEM, a captain of the cross-country team, runs and pole vaults in track and field, volunteers at the Botanic Gardens, and leads a chapter of KidzCoding, a nonprofit that teaches children how to code. In her nonexistent free time, she likes to read, unicycle, make balloon animals, and chat with her friends, both from Claremont and around the world. She hopes to help everyone have a great year in Wolfpacket!
