On the internet, where creativity knows no bounds, one name has recently risen above the rest: DJ Mandy, the alias of 19-year-old Amanda Shultz, a CHS alumni. With her satire DJ sets, and “seamless” blend of contrasting genres, she has captivated the hearts of millions, amassing a remarkable 9.4 million likes since her rise to fame last summer.
Shultz’s sudden rise to fame took the internet by storm, mirroring her own astonishment.
“It was very surprising I wasn’t expecting anything to happen.” Shultz said.
Whether it was pure luck or the TikTok algorithm, her mashups bring laughter to her 372.6K followers. However, her stardom did not emerge without hard work. DJ Mandy can often be found streaming live on TikTok for hours on end. With a consistent video upload rate it’s no wonder why DJ Mandy has become an internet sensation.
At first many were confused as to her true intentions. Shultz has confirmed that her DJ sets are in fact satire and not a reflection of her DJ ability. As a matter of fact Shultz is a skilled DJ. Followers are often shocked when DJ Mandy “accidently” performs a smooth transition. Shultz can sometimes be caught smiling at the reactions of her fans.
DJ Mandy’s talent and rise to fame has not come without the recognition of celebrities and brands alike. Spotify, Windows, and even pop star icon Olivia Rodrigo expressed their liking of Shultz’s remixes.
“My favorite comment was when Olivia Rodrigo said “I have chills istg.” Shultz said.
Many have marveled at DJ Mandy’s ability to maintain an expressionless composure while performing. In response, Shultz shares her process.
“I have to make the video like 10 times before I can hold in my laugh,” Shultz said, shedding light on the dedication and effort that goes into each entertaining performance.
What is the future looking like for this new DJ? Shultz has her sights set on producing her own music and continuing to grow her platform. With the release of her first disco track “Jam”, she is doing just that. So if you are ever in need of a DJ with a fresh twist in the music scene, make sure to check out DJ Mandy.
