Claremont High School’s physical education uniforms are far from perfect. Most students who are required to take PE classes find them objectively horrible. Ignoring the idea of removing the uniforms altogether, the PE clothes that CHS provides for students to wear are outdated, underperforming, and a borderline waste of money.
One complaint about the uniforms is the unusual drawstrings. Instead of the string going through the waistband and coming out with two ends that one can tie together, the string has no ends. Yes, the drawstring exits the waistband, however, there is no effective way to tighten it. This itself is the entire purpose of the drawstring. There are very few people who would have trouble tying a bow of some sort with a two-ended drawstring, but at that point, the issue of tying a drawstring is not the school’s problem.
Another glaring issue with PE uniforms is the lack of pockets. While having pockets is not necessary for PE, removing them altogether is not beneficial. Having pockets is useful if, for instance, a student’s earring loses its backing and there is no other place to store it. There is a reason pockets are so integrated into so many athletic shorts. It is clearly a design flaw if pockets are not integrated into PE uniforms, especially for students who have a tendency to stuff things into their pockets.
Moving onto the top part of the uniform, the shirt has just as many flaws as the shorts, if not more. The main point of concern is the logo, and more specifically, the material which it is made out of. The logo’s material, when sweaty, rubs against the skin; while this is not drastic discomfort, it is more than enough to make people feel uncomfortable in their own clothes.
It is not just the logo that is uncomfortable though, as the shirt itself is poorly designed. Objectively, it is no more than a regular T-shirt. There is nothing about the shirt that makes it particularly count as “athletic wear”. Moreover, considering that students need to pay to wear it exclusively for PE, it is a borderline scam.
Overall, there are a plethora of reasons Claremont High’s PE uniforms are in need of a rework. Whether it is because of how boring they are or how badly designed they are, these PE uniforms definitely need an update.

Tavish Brodie is a first year reporter for the Wolfpacket who has fallen down the Speech and Debate to Wolfpacket pipeline. When filling out the elective request form, Brodie was caught between Journalism and Photography, intrigued by the creative opportunities that each offered. Ultimately the journalism gods won out in a battle that will ultimately test the limits of Tavish’s creativity and debate honed time management/efficiency in his quest to deliver the highest quality video game reviews CHS has ever known. A linguistic legend, Tavish is enrolling in Spanish 3 as a freshman thanks to his many years of study leading up to high school. This year Brodie is excited to spend time with friends, learn from his cool teachers, and hopes to join the JV volleyball team in the spring. When you see him in the halls, know that our reporter is a chill friendly guy and the Wolfpacket is excited to have him on staff.
