A Farewell Poem from the Former EICs of the Wolfpacket
Though we’ve gone through a lot
There’s much more to be treasured
The class of 2020 goes on,
Not divided, but together
2020, the most coveted graduation year
It started out rough, with threats of WW3 near
Trump was caught in his impeachment proceedings
And Kobe Bryant’s death left many in their feelings
While seniors thought that 2020 could not come sooner,
The world hit them once again with the phrase, “okay, boomer”
Though they were preoccupied with subtleties such as senioritis,
The class was met with far worse: the coronavirus
As the class of 2020
Prepared to leave the Pack
They were forced to back down
And traded caps for masks
Students were required to sit in front of Zoom
Instead of sitting in a traditional classroom
Jokesters asked their teachers if they could use the bathroom
As only humor could distract from the pandemic’s doom
And while 2020 was struck, 2019 was not spared
In November arose the peril of ransomware
Miring without tech, students were in despair
The world didn’t seem to answer their prayers
Still the year was fraught with equal success
As seniors endured far more than the rest
And in going through this unprecedented test,
We know they’ll do much, as they leave CHS
As Marks, Jung, and Liou explore the liberal arts
At Brown, Kang will top the charts
The Stanford Cardinal will find new blood in Clark
And also in the Ivy League, Abarca and Liu will make their marks
Geary, Alarcon, and Rumbos-Perez travel north to Berkeley
As Chau, Koeppen, Nguyen, Clayton, and Weiler go south to SD
Irvine welcomes Yoo, Panem, Tran, Morente, and Smadi
And towards LA head Kupetz, Walburg, Yu, Nazareth, Chen, Vuong, and Kobayashi
In sports, many chose to commit
Gonzalez heads to St. Francis
With Trafecanty, Bertrand, and Cho
Off to LMU, Westmont, and Pitt
Gsibat and Thomas stay close to home at Pomona and CMC
And Scripps and Mudd claim Linchangco, Abdellatif, Phan, and Fakih
Chow and Alkhatib fight on with USC
West Point welcomes Teran into its military academy
Despite losing three months,
We still have memories to share
From the rise of TikTok, baby Yoda, and Area 51
To overcoming construction, Australian wildfires, and our own ransomware
Unfortunately for the seniors,
They had to proceed with a frown,
While they will find success, no cap,
They must also go on with no gown
2020 was a worse year than people thought
Fraught with Ls that everyone caught
Wishing we could wipe it away with the toilet paper that too many stocked
Almost as bad as the bars we just dropped
To close on a more serious note
There is much to remember and much to quote
High school was unpredictable, the future is unknown
We’ll remember our time here, wherever we go
