South Korea
Senior Farmaeliane Lai embarked on a two-week trip to Southeastern Asia. The first of Lai’s destinations was Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Afterwards, Lai headed to South Korea where she visited Seoul, Gangwon, Gyeonggi-do, and Nami Island.
She also visited the popular street food and shopping district, Myeongdong in Seoul. A trip highlight was “The Garden of Morning Calm”, which houses a variety of colorful plants.
Food-wise Lai had many traditional foods. “For foods, we ate a lot of kimchi, like every single meal they had a side dish of kimchi. Of course, we also had Korean barbecue, and we went to this place that specifically makes ginseng chicken soup,” Lai said. Additionally, she discovered an emphasis on health and beauty products in South Korea.
“One of their main focuses is on appearances and health, so I noticed that after seeing the large number of skin care products, especially face masks,” Lai said.
“One of the main reasons why I was excited about going to South Korea was because of how much I enjoy watching Korean dramas, and it was interesting to see the aspects of Korean culture that were displayed in the show in real life,” Lai said. Although it was Lai’s first time to South Korea, she certainly experienced Korean culture and traditions.
