CHS Soccer Reflects on CIF Season
Coming off the heels of a 2016 campaign that saw an 18-6-4 overall record, it is safe to say that the CHS Girls’ Varsity Soccer team had to meet lofty expectations. Flash forward to the end of the 2017 season, Girls’ Soccer exceeded the preseason hype.
Not only did CHS Varsity Soccer make it to the state championship tournament, but they also amassed an astonishing 23 wins coupled with only three losses and two ties. They were the first team in CHS Girls’ Soccer history to make a state championship tournament appearance, and at the end of the season, the team felt accomplished because of all the hard work they collectively put in to yield impressive results. The pack made it all the way to CIF finals where they lost by a final score of 1-0. In the local Palomares League, they had an 8-1-1 record.
One of the toughest points in their season was the Pack’s loss to South Hills (1-0), which encouraged them to finish their season strong and never underestimate an opponent. The Pack was anchored by standout sophomore Sophie Jones who scored a whopping 21 goals, more than twice the next leading scorer. Head Coach Tim Tracy thought the Pack had an outstanding season.
“This is a special team with special individuals. Together we have created success. Each component has contributed equally with the end product forming the Pack,” Head Coach Tim Tracy said.
Next season, the team has their eyes firmly set on another state championship appearance and CIF title.
