New Teen Section at Claremont Library
The Claremont Public Library is planning on making a teen section in the library for 2016, and their goal is to make a place for teenagers to study, read, and hang out. A voluntary committee of Claremont teens has recently been assembled to give input and feedback as to what teenagers in this community would like to see in the new Claremont Library teen space.
The new committee of teens came together at their first meeting on Nov. 28 to discuss the issue of trying to get teenagers to spend a comfortable and enjoyable time at the library. The library’s teen advisory committee is open to any interested Claremont students. They will be meeting on a monthly basis for the duration of the project, and for those who are interested in joining, they should get in touch with Claremont Library manager Amy Crow.
“The library currently has a very small teen area, and the redo will make the space larger and more appealing. The committee will be weighing in on theme, layout, furniture selections, and decorations,” Crow said.
The teen board is planning on putting couches and creating a lounge in the teen section, where they can hold study sessions and have access to the internet and charging stations. As there are many things to be done, the County Library and the “Friends of the Claremont Library,” which are local Claremonters who donate to the library, are funding this library project.
“I’m really excited, I’ve wanted to be involved with the city of Claremont but I wasn’t sure how. It’s been really fun working with other high schoolers who share this same interest with me, and the whole idea of designing a section of the library is so cool and such an amazing opportunity,” committee member sophomore Phoebe Murphy said.
The committee is hoping to give the students their own comfortable area at the library, so the students may be able to go to the library to borrow a book and to study. With the help of the committee and many other contributors, the beginning of building the teen center is to be finished efficiently and quickly, so that many teens will be able to receive the opportunity to learn and to have a great time at the Claremont Public Library.
