Cookin’ it Up With Mohi’s Menu
Welcome to Mohi’s Menu. In this column, I shall be discussing all things culinary, from the best dishes to the most intriguing techniques. Whatever is interesting about the World of Food, you can bet that it will find itself in the folds of my writing. For this installment, I am providing a review of the three best sandwiches in America; by my standards that is.
When you walk into a Philadelphia diner, your olfactory senses are enveloped in the enticing aromas of sauteed peppers and onions, caramelized beef, and melting cheese. These are the effects of the Philly Cheese Steak. A true culinary marvel, the quintessential Philly Cheese Steak sandwich elicits feelings of gluttony, grace, history, and comfort, all while being served at a price that even the most fiscally conservative spenders will not be able to resist. Although not an ideal choice for regular consumption, courtesy of its high-caloric value, such a historic piece of the East Coast culinary tradition should be considered a top priority for anyone visiting the City of Brotherly Love. When you think of delicatessen food, the term, “Reuben” undoubtedly comes to mind. One of the more storied sandwiches in this review, the Reuben sandwich is straight out of a deli’s playbook. Striking the perfect balance between sweet, sour, and richness, this sandwich is absolutely delicious, served with condiments like sauerkraut, meats such as pastrami and corned beef, and being traditionally served on Marble Rye bread, this is a veritable culinary extravaganza. A staple of the sandwich shops all over the States, the Reuben has become a delectable choice for all.
A true southern masterpiece, and a poster boy (no pun intended) for culinary richness, the Po’boy sandwich fits the bill for anyone wanting to experience a divine food sensation. Traditionally, a Po’boy is served hot with seafood ranging from fried shrimp and oysters, to crab, catfish, and crawfish, as well as Louisiana “hot sausage.” A true American classic, this sandwich espouses everything there is to love about the South and is deserving of recognition from even the most sophisticated connoisseur.
Although some may disagree with the choices above, one thing is certain, each of the selected dishes brings its own unique and flavorful panache while providing a wonderful experience for any diner.
