The Wolfpacket’s Annual Summer Workshop is a Success

On Aug. 3, Claremont High School’s The Wolfpacket hosted its annual journalism workshop for students in grades 6-12th. Current editors and reporters came to help share their experiences to the future reporters. Many excited students from different schools and grade levels came to expand their knowledge of writing and photography.
Wolfpacket editors Arianna Moss and Alexa Tsiopoulos, along with Advisor Kevin Glavin, led an interactive and informative workshop to help prospective and future reporters experience a typical The Wolfpacket production schedule. The newspaper’s classroom was filled with students eager to try their hand at reporting and running a newspaper.
“I was actually really surprised when I walked in the room and all the computers were filled up with kids,” reporter James Jung said, “It was not only incoming or current high school kids, but also elementary school kids who wanted to know more about the program and join when they start high school.”
Students learned that there are many components that make up the newspaper. They were given a chance to explore comics, photos, opinions, news, sports, features, and arts and entertainment. Students learned how to write and obtain story ideas, how to write leads, and any skill needed to be a reporter. Current editors and reporters also gave students one-on-one help with the articles that they wrote in their summer edition of the Wolfpacket. The current staff was delighted that so many students were able to learn about how to run a newspaper.
“The Wolfpacket workshop was held over the summer and it was a great opportunity to participate in,” reporter Bridget Engelbert said, “It was wonderful to see the younger kids engage and learn what it likes to be a part of The Wolfpacket and hopefully in the future it will encourage younger kids to join later on.”
The summer edition ran smoothly under the care of the new reporters. The Wolfpacket can add another successful recruiting workshop under its belt, with its popular workshop. With a new year of The Wolfpacket approaching rapidly, many are excited go report about exciting and strange events happening in Claremont.
