Procrastinasia: Procrastinating on Homework Not Musical Dreams

Procrastinasia is the new and upcoming band to listen for at this year’s Battle of The Bands. Seniors Adriana Perez and Megan White first called their band “Repeat, Repeat” then “Shock 88” until they added their other band mates senior Sarah Blaine on guitar and junior Andres Beltran on guitar and piano. Through many practices and a lot of brainstorming, they finally decided on the unique name “Procrastinasia” because of their tendency to procrastinate.

Although they have not played at any venues other than the CHS Sing-a-thon, the band is hoping to be recognized at the Battle of The Bands so that they can perform outside of their practice area. With an Indie-rock vibe to their music, the four band mates created an original song called “Gas Station Coffee.” In order to create a song, Procrastinasia engages in a long process, such as finding a story or person that really inspires them to write. Perez and Beltran spent about ten hours creating the lyrics along with all the chords to finally master their first original song.

“Gas Station Coffee was very unique and special to us,” Beltran said. “At our first official band practice we went down to Starbucks to get some coffee but the line was too long, so we went to Trader Joes instead. We got this cool looking coffee, but it tasted horrible, like oil.”

To get ready for different performances, the band practices for six hours on weekends at Blaine’s house. The band also performs many cover songs, which they listen to beforehand to get into the spirit of the music. 21 Pilots, Indie Realms, and Grimms are just a few bands that inspire them to create music. Although most of the band is graduating this year, their goals are to become more recognized by the student body, record at different recording studios, and have fun playing together in the time they have left. Since the group’s formation in January, they have not yet recorded many songs together, but their covers and originals are up on YouTube and their Facebook page, Procrastinasia.

“I think it’s really cool and unique that all of us are in the CHS band and can play more than one instrument,” Blaine said. “I can play the guitar and trombone, but some of my other band mates can play up to 4 insrtuments.”

For Beltran, Blaine, Perez, and White, Procrastinasia is a way to express themselves in music form. Even though the band was formed recently, their shared musical background allowed the band to soar into a promising year
