“Coco” Jardin Named New Varsity Coach

Jose “Coco” Jardin, long time CHS proctor and Varsity Football Assistant Coach, was recently named head coach of the varsity football team on Feb. 6. Coach Coco has been part of the Wolfpack for 11 years and is looking forward to leading the team to a possible CIF title in years to come.

“We expect to elevate to the top by working hard in the classroom, offseason, and with in-season execution,” Coco said.

With the recent retirement of head coach Mike Collins, CHS football needed someone who was suitable to coach and was also knowledgeable of the game. Coach Coco met these requirements and was thus awarded the position. Coach Coco has been at CHS since 2003 when he coached freshman and varsity football.

“2015 is a great year for my family, not only because I was given the head coaching position, but because my granddaughter Jade Soignée was born,” Coco said. “Her last name, Soignée, means ‘on point’ in French, and that is how we expect Wolfpack football to be.”

All of the same coaches remain on staff, but are just in different roles for the upcoming season. Terrance Lynch is helping out with the team’s linebackers and running backs. This means that Lynch will train the linemen to perform to the best of their abilities and will push the running backs to become faster and stronger. Claremont has star running backs and a solid offensive line, but hard work also needs to come into play in order to have a solid team.

In addition, Coach Ryan Campuzano, former quarterback coach, has taken over the role as offensive coordinator. Campuzano is now in charge of CHS offense and will suggest the plays that will be run throughout the season. Coach Brian Sosnovsky remains head of the offensive line, with his job being to train his linemen to protect their quarterback and make openings for the running back on run plays. Jim Munsey is also on the coaching staff as the new special teams coordinator for the season, meaning he will help design plays for kick returns, punts, and potential field goal blocks. All in all, the Pack’s coaching staff is ready to put their heads together in order to put varsity football at the top of the rankings by the end of next season.

“I think selecting Coco as the new head coach was a great choice for the football program because he has a lot to offer to this team,” varsity sophomore quarterback Jacob Grajales said. “I believe it will be a great season and I cannot wait to see what he has in store for us.”

CHS football is a rising program and Coach Coco has high hopes to take his team to the top. His team plans to win and will fight for a chance to bring the Pack a CIF title. In the wise words of Coco, his team is sure to “dream big.” Wolfpack football is going through big changes, all to improve their game and become united in order to have a successful season.
