The 2026 Winter Olympics, officially declared the Milano Cortina 2026, will be held in Northern Italy, from February 6 to February 22, 2026. Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo’s partnership marks the first time in Olympic history that two cities have co-hosted. New sports will also be introduced, with ski mountaineering, mixed team skeleton, and dual moguls making their debuts. This year, the games are aiming for higher gender equality, with 50 women’s events and 54 men’s events. Figure skating is a key sport to keep your eyes on with Team USA bringing their best.
The team is reintroducing hair icon, two-time USA Figure Skating Champion, and the 2026 World Champion, Alysa Liu, who is making her return from her retirement from skating at the age of 16 after the last Winter Olympics. Chloe Kim, or if you want to say, “Chloe Win,” legendary snowboarder and two-time Olympic gold medalist, will be making her third consecutive Winter Olympic appearance in the Women’s Snowboard Halfpipe. She is welcoming this season and said she is “good to go,” despite recovering from a torn labrum.
Sophomore Junior Guzman, an enthusiast of snowboarding, shared excitement about the upcoming events. “I’m looking forward to the 2026 Winter Olympics Snowboarding events, more specifically the Halfpipe event led by Chloe Kim,” Guzman said. “She’s such a spectacular snowboarder and absolutely dominates the world of snowboarding.”
One of the other athletes we will see in the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics is two-time gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin in Alpine Skiing. Considered the greatest alpine skier of all time, she has the most World Cup wins, breaking the milestone of 100 victories. Hilary Knight, a five-time Olympian and 10-time IIHF World Champion, has once again qualified for the Olympics in Team USA’s Women’s Ice Hockey. Auston Matthews has been declared the captain of Team USA’s Men’s Ice Hockey. With dozens of impressive and talented athletes, this year’s Olympics will surely bring surprises.
Team USA won gold in Figure Skating, with Japan obtaining silver and Italy, bronze. USA led by Ilia Malinin’s dominating performance. Amber Glenn, who qualified for the Olympics at just 26, considered her Olympics debut as “lackluster” and felt guilty that she had poured all the pressure onto Malinin. However, Figure Skating was a success for Team USA.
There will continue to be excellent performances from these fellow athletes. As of February 10, Team USA has secured seven total medals. Around the world, millions of people wait for constant updates, but exactly whose favor will this Winter Olympics season go to?
