A fundamental part of the high school experience is varsity sports, and with a generational 2025 season, people have wanted to watch the Wolfpack more than ever. However, not everyone can see every game live, and the coaches need communication and film. Every Friday night, the Wolfpack Films channel goes live with a livestream version of every varsity football game. With professional overlays and live updates, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes.
On the broadcast, you will hear two very familiar voices on campus: Play by Play Commentator Luke Roy and Color Commentator Henry Phillips. Roy, known for his other endeavors such as French Club and Wolfcast, is the president of the Sports Media club. Having done this for three years now, talking football is like second nature to this former player and veteran of Sports Media. Also featured are preshow hosts Kaitlyn Zhang and Dominic Maldonado, as well as various camera workers and tech hands.
“My favorite part of sports media was not anything involving any of our actual duties, but the connections I made,” Roy said. “My first or only connection was film, and without film, I am not sure I would have met those amazing people.”
The voices on broadcast are not the only people involved, and the program could not be run without important members like the director, pre-game show hosts, and camerapeople.
“The livestream comes together when people work together,” Zhang said. “In the beginning, everybody helps set up the cameras and equipment, then once it hits 7 p.m., everybody is at their stations. Besides the livestream, other people work in the end zone to get footage of the players for study and improvement. […] Though we are focused on the livestream, we manage everything during the game.”
The crew has been to every football game and captured every moment.
“My favorite memory is hard, but for me it had to be calling the game versus Los Osos this past season,” Roy said. “We were trailing by two scores with our starter out, and in my head, the game was lost. But then we somehow won, and it was one of the most euphoric experiences I have ever had involving sports ever, which is saying a lot.”
From the six-game win streak to their loss in the California Interscholastic Federation postseason, the Film Crew has been there at every step, bringing the Wolfpack to everyone’s homes under those Friday night lights.
