The universal struggle of finding the perfect Halloween costume comes around every October, but now there is a second pressure for high school students: Homecoming. Students must balance finding a Halloween costume, finding an outfit for Homecoming, and maintaining their other responsibilities. This raises the question: Is it possible to kill two birds with one stone? The answer is yes!
Not only do Homecoming outfits often cost a large amount of money, but they will likely only get worn once, at Homecoming. Tenth grader Sydney Berge, who attended Homecoming last year, proves that Homecoming outfits can be quite pricey. “Last year for my HOCO dress, I think I spent, like, 120 dollars,” Berge said. For many people, this is not an easy commitment for one-time wear.
If one desires a white dress, a haunted bride may be a perfect costume. Any white dress could work for this costume, and applying five-dollar fake blood onto the face, body, or even dress can help obtain that spooky, haunted bride vibe in a very effective, simple way. To make the costume more obvious, a veil could be very beneficial. This could be a simple, cheap, tool veil or an actual veil to exemplify the bride scenario.
If the goal is a cuter, more ethereal costume, one can opt for something more like a fairy. A fairy costume can be created using any color and style of dress, but is often portrayed with pastel colors and flowy designs. To transform a dress into a fairy costume, one will certainly need a pair of wings. To add some extra detail, you can either purchase or handmake a flower crown, as they are often associated with fairies.
One popular costume idea while fashioning a suit is “Men in Black.” This costume idea requires just a Homecoming suit and a pair of sunglasses. This is a cool, last-minute idea that one can either use as a solo costume or share with friends to create a stylish group costume.
Another character that can be easily recreated with a suit is a superhero in disguise. To create this costume, all that is needed is a shirt with the logo of the wearer’s favorite superhero on it, and, of course, the suit. When they are ready to put on the costume, just put the ‘supersuit’ under the actual suit, leaving the top few buttons of the shirt undone to reveal an undercover identity.
Reusing a Homecoming dress or suit as a Halloween costume is much easier than one may have previously thought. So, save some time and money this season while still having a cool Halloween costume for any plans this holiday!
