Elijah Balcazar—track athlete, yearbook photographer, and musical genius. He is known around campus for being the girls’ varsity volleyball DJ and having an optimistic attitude. From a very young age, he knew what his passions were. “I’d play around with Garage Band,” Balcazar said. “At 12 years old, my dad taught me how to DJ. That’s really when I got into music.”
Balcazar’s goal is to get a scholarship, particularly from the University of California, Berkeley. As long as he finds his crowd in the music program, he will be happy.
Balcazar is honored to be nominated for Homecoming Court. “I’ve always struggled a lot with my own identity and what other people think of me,” Balcazar said. “Just being nominated for Homecoming Court is a checkpoint for me saying, ‘I am doing well and figuring myself out.’”
Many people have respected, loved, and supported Balcazar in his high school journey, and Balcazar wants to recognize them. His parents have always supported him, with his dad being a role model—pushing him to learn new things. He also wants to shout out Paola Garcia, “She made the court too, that’s a big thing, and I’m proud of her,” Balcazar said. As well as Aarion, “my brother from another mother,” Balcazar said. And to those he did not shout out, he wants them to know he loves them and would not be here without them.
