On August 28th, 2025, Claremont High School (CHS) welcomed one of its newest faculty: Daisey Calles. In room 607A, Calles contributes to the CHS community by being a Moderate/Severe Education Specialist for the 9-12th SDC special education class. Coming from Sumner Danbury Elementary School, Calles enjoys her new working environment here at CHS. “[The transition was] completely different, but completely different in a good way…I feel like Sumner Danbury prepared me to be here,” Calles said.
Calles’s favorite part of her job is working alongside colleagues and students. At Claremont High specifically, she enjoys seeing the connections and interactions that students have with each other. In addition, she appreciates the positive environment and the helpfulness of teachers and staff.
Her passion for teaching came from her first job out of college, where she worked in a private school with kids with severe disabilities. For her, it was an intense environment; however, she learned to fall in love with it. This experience helped start her journey in special education.
Outside of teaching, Calles has a passion for helping out animals. With a background working at local rescues, she has a strategy to benefit the most animals: fostering pets from different rescues.
When asked to describe herself with adjectives, Calles explains that the best fitting ones would have to be “patient” and “sincere.” These two characteristics show not only her commitment to her students and colleagues but also her ability to be honest and caring, making her an amazing new teacher here at Claremont High School. Welcome, Ms. Calles!
